Now that we have all read this book, let's discuss:
Truly, I loved it. I loved that I waited and read it for the first time with you, my class. I loved that Sharon Draper was realistic. The characterization was AMAZING! I loved Melody, Catherine, Mrs. V. I loathed Molly and Claire, but I also realize that those kids, those adults, exist, and they exist everywhere. I felt compassion for Rose because I could see her struggling with knowing that she should show kindness to Melody, but also the struggle of trying to fit in. I loved the story-line. I found myself outraged at Mr. Dimming and his complete lack of tact, compassion and understanding of his students' needs.
I could go on and on. Perhaps I will later in a more formal review, but first, I want to know what all of you thought. Did you like it? What did it make you feel? If you could ask Ms. Draper something, what would it be? Should we read it aloud another year?
Lastly, enjoy your weekend!

I loved this book so much!!!!!!!!! I think it was very realistic and you could feel how the characters were feeling. It made me really sad when everybody left Melody behind and she didn't make it to D.C. I really loved this book and I think you should read it aloud another year!

I truely loved this book. It was so touching, sad, but exciting. I really hated it when her teammates left her behind. Someone could've called her. I would've stay back for melody. That is what a REAL good friend would do. I recommend this book to anyone in the whole wide world...although the whole grade already read it.
